CRITICAL AND CONTEXTUAL PRESENTATION_ SONIA DELAUNAY
I hate presentations with a passion. So when it was announced that we had to produce a presentation as part of our final critical and contextual grade (50% in fact), I wasn't best pleased. But I had to get on with it, something I usually struggle with due to stubbornness and being scared.
The aim of this presentation was to help and discuss the essay through the use of one artist/ designer of your choice. The artist/designer would relate to the essay question, and would contain in depth knowledge of them and their work. My tutor put up a plan of the presentation and what to include, which really helped- it was like a recipe. This also made me feel more confident about the content of my presentation.
I chose to research Sonia Delaunay as my main artist. She is a well know artist, who was primarily known for her abstract paintings. However I was interested in her textile work, which she still included under the title of art (a perfect reference for my essay). Even though she was a very famous and inspirational figure, I knew little about her or her work. It was only when I visited her exhibition in Paris did I become amazed by her art filled life, and wanted to share this with my fellow students.
The presentation overall was a success. It was very nerve-racking, and to help me from losing my way, I did use a script. Although this was not ideal, I feel I dealt with it in the best way possible, trying to engage the audience as much as possible. I did speak to fast, mainly because I wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible- its almost a natural reaction when faced with something you aren't comfortable with. One down, one to go. Like most people, I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy giving a presentation.
